Patience Is A Virtue

However, I certainly could use some work improving mine.

Today I got just a tad more impatient than what I've been lately and decided to email someone in the Peace Corps Placement Office to get an update on my application status.  I am not sure if what I know now is better or worse to know.  The PC Placement Assistant informed me that everyone is experiencing delays in receiving invitations and being placed.

I already knew that there can be unexpected delays along the road of becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer.  No big deal.  However, what new information I gathered is that...I may not hear anything more for ANOTHER COUPLE OF MONTHS!

Oh, how my lack of patience is getting to me today.  I orginally was nominated for a program in Sub-Saharan Africa that would depart in April 2012.  The way it is sounding now is that I may not hear what program I will be invited to until March or April.  Who knows when I will be heading to new parts of this world.

I'll continue to take care of the beautiful baby calves at home here and will keep y'all posted if anything changes!

Who Knew?

I know I never thought about it, but I surely did not know that there is a 14 mile long island just off of Wisconsin on Lake Superior.

As I was stumbling along, I came across a site with several unknown islands and Madeline Island was the first one.  I find this small island fascinating and already can hardly wait to check out this fine feature of the Midwest.  So neat!  And this island only has a permanent population of around 300 people.

This might just be one of the next islands I visit!  I surely want to drive on the ice road!

Wonderful People

Just this past Tuesday I hit the road again for another one of my trips around the country.  This time I was headed back to a place I know well and came to love very much...San Antonio!

I am so grateful to have so many fantastic friends who are all over the nation and world.  Not more than four hours from home I was able to visit a friend from my freshman year at Montana State in Des Moines, IA.  M and I enjoyed catching up and eating tasty gelato.

Next Stop?  Blair, Nebraska!  Another good friend, also from Montana, has left the Big Sky State to work in the Midwest with Cargill.  It was great hanging out with J, cooking and eating lasagna, and having super hospitality and accommodations in the middle of nowhere Nebraska!

Then it was off to TEXAS!!  My first college roommate and her husband have found themselves near Bowie, TX and I was so excited to be able to visit them again!  It was such a relaxing couple days just having lunch, drinking tea, playing with Banjo and Rocky (the dogs, of course!), reading a good book, and just being around wonderful, beautiful people!!

And finally...Austin and San Antonio!  I was so excited on my drive south on I-35 to get down here and visit all the friends I made last year and just enjoy my time!  I was able to stop for THE BEST CUPCAKES EVER from Hey Cupcake! on S. Congress in Austin and grab some tasty pizza with C, a friend from Austria.

As I drove into San Antonio, my whole self just got more and more filled with excitement.  I love seeing the beauty of the interstates and highways crisscrossing, noticing all the familiarities and changes, and eventually arriving at the door of a great and truly wonderful friend!

Since Friday, I have been able to relax and hang out with S each day! It has been super!! She has even taken me to workout...my legs still hurt!  We have enjoyed a couple movies, good food, and long chats.  Many of my other friends have been busy this weekend, but we visited M and are planning a BBQ later this week!

We made a trip Sunday to the San Antonio Zoo.  The zoo here is definitely one of the greater ones around.  It was so fantastic to walk around and see the elephant, komodo dragon, jaguar, tiger, multiple toads and frogs, and so many other animals.  Visiting a zoo makes one realize even more how diverse and indescribably amazing the world around us is.

I've only been back here in San Antonio for a few days, but I almost feel like I never left.  I am just so thankful that I know so many wonderful people!  I do enjoy Texas so much, but I know that without the greatest friends ever that I have here, it would not be the same!

The next week will surely pass by in such a flurry, I'll be back home for Christmas in no time.  However, I am going to fill each day to the brim making unforgettable memories with beautiful and terrific friends!
